About Me

Counsellor Misi
"I realized what really mattered
to me wasn’t professional success, but being able to walk alongside others in their most vulnerable and human moments..."

I started Cherished Pathways Counselling Services because I wanted it to be more than just a practice—it’s a space where you can feel safe, supported, and truly seen.

My path to counselling began with my own search for purpose. After years in the corporate world, I realized what really mattered to me wasn’t professional success, but being able to walk alongside others in their most vulnerable and human moments.

I hold a Master of Arts in Counselling from City University of Seattle in Calgary and a Bachelor of Management degree. I’m also a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC) with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association and a Certified Professional Counsellor (CPC) with the Professional Association of Christian Counsellors and Psychotherapists.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with people from many different backgrounds and at all stages of life. My experience includes supporting clients in addiction recovery centres—young men aged 18 to 28, as well as women navigating mental health challenges during recovery. These experiences shaped the way I practice today: with compassion, cultural sensitivity, and a trauma-informed perspective.

I’ve chosen to specialize in addiction counselling because I don’t see addiction as a choice or a weakness. I see it as a response to pain and disconnection. As Dr. Gabor Maté says, “The question is not why the addiction, but why the pain?”This perspective guides the way I support clients—helping them uncover the story behind their struggles and find their way toward healing and hope.

I’m fluent in both English and Yoruba, and I welcome individuals, couples, and families from all walks of life. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, unsure, or just need someone to talk to, I’d be honoured to walk alongside you, one step at a time, on your cherished path to healing.

My Approach:

When you work with me, my focus is on you—your story, your pace, and your goals. I believe healing happens when you feel safe, respected, and supported, so that’s the kind of space I try to create.

I use a mix of different approaches depending on what feels right for you, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). These are just tools—but the real work is about helping you feel understood, building resilience, and supporting you in creating the changes you want in your life.

Whether you’re going through anxiety, trauma, grief, burnout, relationship struggles, or recovery, my role is to walk with you and remind you that you don’t have to go through it alone.

Plant

“When we are not seen, not heard, not understood, and not ‘gotten,’ then we experience a loss of self.”

- Dr. Gabor  Maté
